Willamette Falls Portage Project
Restoring Access
The Willamette Falls Portage Trail was a concept design project actively planned in 2019 and 2020 to re-establish river access in downtown Oregon City.
The overall mission of We Love Clean Rivers is to facilitate community-based river stewardship. Working with key partners like the Oregon State Marine Board and PGE, our team developed designs for access points to a 10% level, ensuring incorporation into the larger Joint Project Agreement.
Portage Project Impacts
Connecting Paddlers
The primary goal was connecting paddlers to downtown Oregon City. We focused on establishing safe, seasonal summer use access points, including an ADA-accessible upstream location (E3).
Concept & Scope
River access designs were developed to a 10% readiness level. The scope included synchronizing with the larger Willamette Falls Riverwalk project to ensure seamless integration.
The Future
While this planning phase is complete, the vision remains alive. These designs provide the blueprint for future implementation, ensuring that as the riverfront transforms, public access remains a priority.
