Spring Greetings, River Lovers!
We hope this finds you well, and ready for a better year and hopefully great times on the rivers.
Gratitude
First, we want to shout out a belated gratitude to Nicole Fredericks for their superb service as WLCR’s Volunteer & Event Coordinator.
Of particular note was the amazing work Nicole managed through multiple challenges, namely COVID and the wildfires last summer.
Furthermore, the River Ambassador Program was a mere glimmer in our eye when Nicole stepped up from assisting the 2019 Down the River Cleanup and taking the helm as Volunteer & Event Coordinator. This meant building the program from scratch, and giving it enough resources and planning to perform through multiple years.
Thanks to Nicole, we are now poised to take the River Ambassador program into its second pilot year with notable partnerships and funding to help support it (see Job Announcement below). Thank you, Nicole, and best wishes on your next endeavor!
And thank you to all of the stakeholder group members and volunteers who helped pull off a the inaugural River Ambassador program on the Clackamas.
What’s Going on in 2021?
As many of you might guess, 2021 will be even crazier than 2020, at least in terms of interest and impact on rivers because of pent-up demand for river recreation.
We Love Clean Rivers is focused this year on three pillars of action:
- Clackamas Down the River Cleanup event, scheduled for September 12th, 2021. Add it to your calendars!
- River Ambassador program on the Clackamas, scheduled for most weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day, and more with more river sites (based on volunteers!).
- Willamette Falls Project – Cleanup, Portage & Water Trails, general access . . . WLCR continues to learn, plan and explore access and stewardship opportunities around the falls, while supporting the varied interests around tourism, ecology, clean industry, and tribal uses.
If you would like to volunteer for ANY of these programs or projects, please email info@welovecleanrivers.org!
JOB ANNOUNCEMENT!
We Love Clean Rivers seeks its new Volunteer & Event Coordinator to continue building on the River Ambassador Program and to spearhead the annual “Down the River Cleanup” on the Clackamas River.
This position will be charged with 1) running safe and successful volunteer programming and events, 2) generating sponsor revenue and grant support, and 3) providing reports and updates as needed.
The coordinator will have to be a self starter as most work is done independently. However, both the River Ambassador program and the Down the River Cleanup have returning and seasoned volunteers and an array of other nonprofit and government leaders to help. Moreover, the Volunteer & Event Coordinator will have regular support from the all-volunteer board of We Love Clean Rivers.
