Down the River Cleanup
The Annual Cleanup
Since 2003, the Down the River Cleanup has been Oregon’s longest-running on-the-water stewardship event. We mobilize over 4,500 volunteers to remove 40 tons of trash from the Clackamas River, turning restoration into recreation to protect drinking water for 300,000 Oregonians and vital habitat for endangered salmon.
Clackamas Cleanup Impacts
Critical Ecosystems
The Clackamas River is more than a playground; it is a critical ecosystem. Trash accumulation threatens water quality, endangers wildlife, and degrades the natural beauty of the river.
Mobilized Community
We believe the best protectors of the river are those who enjoy it. We mobilize a fleet of boaters and land-volunteers to scour 20 miles of riverbank in a high-impact day of stewardship.
40 Tons Removed
To date, we have removed over 80,000 lbs of garbage, recycling 42% of what we find. We have transformed the river corridor into a safer, cleaner space for wildlife and families alike.

How to Get Involved
Register for our annual event! Whether you have a drift boat, a kayak, or just a pair of boots for the riverbank, we need your help to keep the Clackamas pristine.
Cleanups happen beyond the Clackamas! Ambassadors lead year-round self-run events and educate recreationists, ensuring our waterways stay safe and clean everywhere.
Use our "Stash the Trash" bags stationed at key boat ramps. Grab a bag before you float, pick up debris along your way, and leave the river better than you found it.
We rely on donations and partnerships with individuals, local groups, and companies. Your support funds trash removal, safety gear, and volunteer coordination.
