NEXT Down the River Mini Cleanup

Carver to Riverside – Sept. 21

Sept. 16

Five paddlers set out last Friday morning from Riverside Park to do a cleanup of the lowest 3.2 miles of the Clackamas River.

It was a beautiful morning, and thank you to Dock, Mark, Elliot, Amy and Matt for knocking out the first Down the River Mini Cleanup (and make up for the cancelled event).

And thank you to Amy at Clackamas River Basin Council for the great Reel of the Mini Cleanup!

RIVERSIDE TO CLACKAMETTE REPORT

We had two canoes (garbage scows) and two kayaks (sit on tops). Thanks again to Elliot and AMR for providing river safety support!

Despite finding treasures like a broken umbrella, two plywood contraptions (one with a slalom ski bolted to a trapezoid of plywood, quickly dubbed the ‘Millennium Falcon’) and the token carcass of a large pool float (one of the mattress kinds),

the overall litter load was SMALL!

We found actual trash piles, too, and numerous places with politely placed (hung) pre-filled bags of trash.

With little exception, most beaches were clean and the river was clear to the bottom.

Take note of the completely cleaned beaches around the Clackamette Park ramp – thanks again to the SOLVE volunteers who did this on September 8th!

The final haul looked paltry in the large dumpster, but it filled up two canoes!

This is progress!

And please join us for one of the other mini cleanups!
